26 Corporation playgrounds in Chennai to get facelift, Rs 1 crore project being undertaken in Trustpuram area

Chennai: In a major boost, 26 Corporation playgrounds in the city will get a new look soon, reports suggest. While some places will get new structures and equipment, some others will see renovation and improvement in the existing facilities.

One of such major projects is being undertaken at the Corporation ground in the Trustpuram area of Chennai. Reports suggest that this project will cost around Rs one crore.

The project involves the ground to have an auditorium as well as a seating gallery. A corporation official, while speaking to a media house, said that zonal level competitions are taking place in the ground and the auditorium is being constructed for the prize distribution ceremony. In addition to that, the official said that a seating gallery that would accommodate around 150 people is also being made.

However, this is not the only such project that the authorities have in mind. Semmenchery too is expected to get a multipurpose playground soon. According to officials, this project will cost near about Rs 379 lakh. Apart from that, a children’s play field is being constructed in Nehru Nagar ground in Zone 8. This facility has been provided with an open gym and play equipment. Reports also suggest that a compound wall is also being constructed in the area.

The official, while explaining about the other projects, said that an indoor badminton court has also been proposed at the Chinnamalai Higher Secondary School. Besides that, a futsal court and a gym will come up at Asirvathapuram playground in the Royapuram area besides all the improvement work for the existing facilities. The estimated cost for this project is Rs 180 lakhs.
