Tamil Nadu Announces Diwali Holiday for Schools, Colleges, and Government Offices

With Diwali 2023 just around the corner, Tamil Nadu has officially declared a public holiday for all educational institutions and government offices in the state. The confusion surrounding the festival’s date has led to uncertainties about the holiday schedule this year. To alleviate the concerns of the public, the government has confirmed that Diwali falls on November 12, a Sunday. Consequently, the state government has sanctioned a holiday for Monday, November 13.

This decision was made to accommodate citizens traveling to their hometowns for the festive celebrations. Allowing an additional day off ensures that individuals can comfortably return home and resume work or classes on Tuesday, November 14.

The official announcement was made through the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter). The post read, “Holiday on 13.11.2023 for all Government Offices, Schools, Colleges, and Educational Institutions across Tamil Nadu on the occasion of Diwali – Tamil Nadu Government Notification.”

In other parts of the country, similar actions have been taken due to varying reasons. In Noida, the District Magistrate of Gautam Budha Nagar ordered the discontinuation of physical classes from Pre School to Class 9th until November 10. Online classes are to be conducted instead, considering the poor air quality and in adherence to the Graded Responses Action Plan Stage 4.

Likewise, in Gurugram, the administration has closed all government and private schools from November 7 until further notice due to deteriorating air quality. The closure applies to students from nursery to Class 5. The Deputy Commissioner’s office in Gurugram has urged schools to transition to online classes for affected students, emphasizing the importance of ensuring seamless delivery of education through digital means.

As various regions adapt their schedules to accommodate different circumstances, the primary concern remains the well-being and convenience of the citizens, students, and professionals alike. Stay tuned for further updates on holiday announcements and other related news as Diwali approaches.
