Masked Assailant Murders Wedding Hall Owner in Chennai, Leaving Family Injured

The Avadi City Police are currently investigating a shocking incident involving the murder of a 65-year-old man, the owner of a wedding hall in Annanur near Avadi. The victim, Madhavan, was attacked in his residence on Thirukural Main Road, Sri Shakthi Nagar, Annanur, on the night of February 10, 2024.

An unidentified man, wearing a mask, forcibly entered Madhavan’s house and launched a knife attack. Tragically, Madhavan lost his life on the spot, while his wife, mother-in-law, and daughter sustained critical injuries as they bravely attempted to defend themselves against the assailant.

In response to the incident, three special police teams have initiated a comprehensive search for the suspect, who is suspected to be linked to other recent brutal attacks and murders in the area.

Madhavan, a retired mechanic from the Chennai Port Trust, had transformed part of his residence into a wedding hall named VSM Royal Mahal. Following a previous marriage, he married Shyamala, 44, and the couple had two daughters. The family also included Madhavan’s mother-in-law, Arumugammal, 75.

After the assault, the masked assailant quickly fled through the rear of the house. Arumugammal, bleeding from injuries, sought help from the street, leading concerned neighbors to alert the police. Upon receiving the information, personnel from the Thirumullaivoyal station promptly arrived, transporting the injured to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. Madhavan’s body was also recovered and sent for a post-mortem examination.

Avadi Deputy Commissioner of Police Ayman Jamal, along with Assistant Commissioner of Police Anbalagan and other officers, conducted an initial investigation. Forensic experts collected fingerprints and blood samples, while a sniffer dog was deployed to aid the investigation. The police also examined CCTV footage to gather additional evidence.

A senior police officer stated, “We have certain clues and are actively working to trace the suspect.” The community is awaiting further developments as the investigation unfolds.
