Debate Reignites After Rottweilers Maul 5-Year-Old in Chennai Park

A horrifying incident unfolded in a Chennai park as two Rottweiler dogs attacked a five-year-old girl, leaving her seriously injured. Police swiftly took action, arresting the dogs’ owner and two caretakers on charges of negligence.

The attack occurred in Thousand Lights area, where the dogs were unleashed by their owner. Despite the child’s distress, the owner allegedly failed to intervene until the parents intervened and raised an alarm. The girl, Sudaksha, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The incident has reignited discussions on the ownership of aggressive dog breeds. Calls for stricter regulations have grown louder, especially after the Centre urged states to ban the sale and breeding of 23 ferocious dog breeds, including Rottweilers.

This tragic event underscores the importance of responsible pet ownership and proper regulations to ensure public safety. As authorities and communities grapple with this issue, the well-being of both pets and people remains a top priority.
