Chennai Police Detain SFI Members in Pro-Palestine Protest

The Chennai Police detained approximately 40 members of the Students Federation of India (SFI) during their attempt to stage pro-Palestine protests outside the US consulate in the city on Tuesday.

The SFI members gathered near the US Consulate to denounce Israel’s actions in Palestine and express their discontent with the US’s support for Israel.

G Aravindasamy, the State Secretary of SFI, voiced condemnation, stating, “Israel’s targeting of hospitals and educational institutions in Palestine has resulted in numerous casualties. Despite this, capitalist nations like the US continue to support these atrocities. Students worldwide are protesting against such attacks.”

Police intervened as the students attempted to march toward the US Consulate and detained them forcibly when they refused to disperse.

Last year, Israel initiated a conflict in Gaza following an unexpected attack by Hamas terrorists on October 7, leading to thousands of casualties and displacing millions.
