Emergency Power Outage Hits Odesa, Ukraine Following Russian Attack

Odesa, Ukraine: Ukraine’s vital port city of Odesa plunged into emergency power outages on Monday following a Russian air assault that inflicted damage on a key high-voltage facility, as reported by Ukraine’s leading energy provider, DTEK.

DTEK, addressing the situation via the Telegram messaging app, described the ongoing challenges, stating, “The situation remains difficult.” In response to the damaged infrastructure, the authorities implemented measures to alleviate strain on the electrical network, including the suspension of electric transport services within the city and restrictions on industrial power consumption.

The administration of Odesa corroborated the severity of the situation, confirming via Telegram that the city and its surrounding region faced multiple drone attacks launched by Russia. According to their statement, four of the hostile drones were successfully intercepted over Odesa and neighboring Mykolaiv regions.

Amid the chaos, debris from one of the downed drones ignited a fire at the power facility, swiftly extinguished by emergency responders, the administration reported.

Ukrainian military sources disclosed that their air defense systems thwarted the majority of the hostile incursions, destroying eight out of nine drones launched by Russian forces overnight. Notably, a significant number of the intercepted drones were targeted in the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.

Despite the challenges, there was a glimmer of hope as DTEK announced the restoration of power to two city districts by Monday morning, offering some respite to the beleaguered populace.
