Pitroda's Controversial Comparison

Pitroda’s Remarks: South Indians Compared to Africans

Senior Congress leader Sam Pitroda, known for his provocative statements, has once again ignited a debate with his comments on national unity. In an interview with The Statesman, Pitroda described India as a diverse country where people from different regions resemble various ethnicities. This statement drew criticism from both Congress and BJP leaders.

The Congress party distanced itself from Pitroda’s remarks, with senior leader Jairam Ramesh labeling them as “extremely wrong and unacceptable.” BJP leaders, including Chief Ministers N Biren Singh and Himanta Biswa Sarma, rebuked Pitroda for his divisive comments, emphasizing the unity among Indians despite their diverse appearances.

Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut accused Pitroda of making racist and divisive remarks, condemning the Congress party’s ideology of “divide and rule.” BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla also criticized Pitroda’s statement, calling it shocking and despicable.

Pitroda’s comments came in response to a question about the BJP’s alleged plans to alter India’s socio-economic fabric if it wins the 2024 Lok Sabha election. He defended the Congress’ stance on secularism and democracy, contrasting it with the BJP’s emphasis on religious nationalism.

This controversy follows previous disputes between the Congress and BJP over Pitroda’s remarks on issues like inheritance tax and wealth redistribution. While Pitroda’s views don’t always reflect the Congress’ official position, they continue to stir debate and draw sharp reactions from political opponents.
