Kamal Haasan Advocates ‘Dravidian Model’ in Lok Sabha Election Campaign

As the Lok Sabha elections draw nearer, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan has emphasized the need for a ‘Dravidian model’ of governance and development, contrasting it with the ‘Gujarat Model’. MNM, aligned with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu, has been actively campaigning.

During his campaign for DMK’s South Chennai candidate Thamizhachi Thangapandian in the Mylapore area, Haasan urged voters to support the DMK, stating it’s “for the nation.” He highlighted the importance of unity and support for the party symbol, the rising sun, emphasizing the significance of Thangapandian’s victory in the constituency.

Advocating for the ‘Dravidian Model’ of governance over the ‘Gujarat Model’, Haasan stressed the need for a collective effort in driving progress. He underlined the importance of aligning with the DMK to advance this model nationally.

The campaign event witnessed the participation of hundreds of workers from DMK’s alliance partners, including Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), CPI, and CPM. Haasan reiterated the importance of unity under the national flag.

Tamil Nadu is set to vote for all 39 Lok Sabha seats in the first phase of the general elections on April 19, with the results scheduled for announcement on June 4. In the 2019 polls, the DMK secured a significant victory, winning 23 Lok Sabha seats, with allies Congress and CPI also making gains.

The upcoming elections will span seven phases across the country, commencing on April 19.
