Those who possess firearms told to turn them in

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami will be visiting Mamallapuram on Wednesday, where the second informal summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to be held later this month.

The Kancheepuram district police have asked all those who possess firearms to surrender their weapons at the earliest.

The police have intensified checks in the Mamallapuram police district limits and are also arresting foreign nationals who are living in the town without valid documents.

They are also removing encroachments from the streets of Mamallapuram. “We have initiated the process of getting people to surrender firearms in Mamallapuram police station limits. The order has gone to all the stations in the district,” said a police officer.
