With less than three index cases in Chennai streets, city bids goodbye to need of containment zones

Chennai: Chennai has bid adieu to containment zones, for now, thanks to less than three index cases in every street in the city.

According to a media report, the city corporation officials said that the concept of containment zones had been evolving since the Covid-19 pandemic first started in the country.

Stages of evolvement with the containment zones declaration

While explaining the stages of involvement, it was said that during the initial stage of the pandemic, the containment zones were marked within the 5 km radius from a patient’s house.

CM asks Centre for financial help with Covid-19 tests

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu CM K Palaniswami had recently demanded that the Central government pays at least 50% cost of RT-PCR tests. He has said that the state currently has an average testing capacity of 85,000 RT-PCR tests per day and that it is spending nearly Rs 6.8 crore a day in connection with the tests.

He had further said that the state is facing financial difficulties for incurring such expenses continuously.
