‘No more free tickets’: Chennai Metro ahead of IPL Qualifiers at Chepauk
Before this, CMRL had collaborated with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for league matches held in Chennai, wherein the Indian Premier League tickets could be used as tickets on metro trains.
The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has announced fans cannot use match tickets as travel tickets for witnessing IPL matches at the M A Chidambaram International Cricket Stadium in the Chepauk area of the city on May 23 and 24.
Before this, CMRL had collaborated with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for league matches held in Chennai, wherein the Indian Premier League tickets could be used as tickets on metro trains.
“As the upcoming IPL Playoffs are being organized entirely by the BCCI, with no collaboration with CMRL, IPL tickets cannot be utilized as travel tickets. In connection with the upcoming IPL Playoffs, to be held in Chennai, MA Chidambaram Stadium on 23rd and 24 May 2023, passengers are advised to purchase regular travel tickets to travel,” a CMRL release read.
As ticket counters may not function after 11 pm, passengers have been requested to buy their metro train tickets through digital mode—WhatsApp Ticketing (91-8300086000), Static QR or through CMRL Mobile App.

Passengers returning from the Government Estate Metro Station (Blue Line) to their destination on the Green Line (Central to St Thomas Mount) have been advised to interchange at Central Metro Station. Interchanging stations from the Blue Line to the Green Line will be available after match hours only at the Central Station.
