‘Not interested in Delhi politics’: Tamil Nadu BJP leader Annamalai won’t contest 2024 LS polls

Annamalai said he has informed the party high command he wants to work as a cadre for the 2024 LS polls.

BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai said Sunday he will not contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and wants to focus more on working for the state. Addressing reporters in Coimbatore, Annamalai said he came to Tamil Nadu after resigning as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer for a regime change.

“I am not interested in contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. A lot of capable leaders are there in the party to contest the 2024 polls in Coimbatore and other areas of Tamil Nadu. As a state president, my job is to ensure our candidates win the poll here and send them to Parliament. As a karyakarta, I have informed Delhi (party head office) as well that I look forward to working as a cadre for the 2024 polls,” he said.

Annamalai said he doesn’t wish to move out of Tamil Nadu. “My politics will revolve around my land. For whatever may be the reason, I am not interested in Delhi politics,” he said.

He added that within 15 days, the Bharatiya Janata Party will provide a white statement to the state government which will have the action plan for the next three years. Closing 75 per cent of TASMAC shops, encouraging local toddy businesses, and informing the government about the revenue they can earn through local businesses will be part of the statement, he said.

He further said that after sending the white paper to the government, they will display it for the public during a BJP rally at Villupuram, one of the districts where more than 20 people died after a hooch tragedy last week.
