His hometown of Nandi, in the Kozhikode district, close to Koyilandi, is where his ancestors originally came from. Pharis completed his early education at Poilkayil Government High School after being born in Koyilandi to parents Mundail Abu Bakar and Mariakarat Sophia. Later, he completed his degree at Kozhikode’s Farooq College. After graduating, Pharis continued to help his father’s small leather products business in Chennai, eventually leading it to opulence by way of export trading. Even the Deepika Newspaper, a magazine that first faced financial difficulties, felt the effects of his influence. When Pharis took over, the newspaper’s entrepreneurial spirit was revived.
